Well, it’s been a couple of weeks since we announced that we were expecting baby #2! We couldn’t be more excited. With the first trimester officially behind me, I’m ready to share a few details about my first 12 weeks.
Telling the Family
Telling our parents and siblings is super exciting. Last time, we waited until I was 10 weeks and we announced it at Christmas dinner. This time, it was fall and we had planned a family trip to the local pumpkin patch.
It was a cool morning and we dressed Alexie in a few layers, one of which was a super cute “Big Sister” shirt. But it was hidden under a warm sweater. We spent time running around, climbing pumpkins and riding tractors. At the end, we decided to take a family picture with the entire family. The weather had warmed up so I took off Alexie’s sweater. After a picture, I asked my mom if she liked the shirt. She looked at it for a few seconds, kind of confused. Then she started to laugh, and then cry. Soon my sister was crying, my dad was laughing. It was a great moment.
Telling Ste’s parents was similar. They came over for dinner. When it was time for a diaper change, I changed Alexie’s whole outfit to include a new big sister shirt. We waited to see how long it would take them to figure it out. Ste’s mom even walked around with her for about 15 minutes before we said something. Then everyone laughed.
We had our first sonogram and it was great. I’m always a little nervous before an ultrasound, but everything was great. It was taking a little longer than usual but the technician said it was because the baby was moving around so much. It was making her job difficult because it wouldn’t stay still long enough to get a decent picture. She even got her supervisor who had a hard time too. That baby was just dancing around. It was actually really reassuring that it was moving so much.
I’m looking forward to the next trimester when I hopefully get a little more energy, start showing, busting out all my maternity clothes. We’ve also got a gender reveal party planned for new years eve (fingers crossed that baby cooperates).
I’ve been lucky that I haven’t suffered from any morning sickness. But I’ve been exhausted. Like barely able to keep my eyes open, exhausted. I’d been in bed by 10 pm, and sleep for 9 1/2 hours. Just a few hours later, both Alexie and I would be heading down for a nap, that usually lasted at least 2-3 hours. And that didn’t feel like enough. I couldn’t wait until Alexie went down for the night, so I could do that same. Thankfully, I’m starting to get my energy back now and I hope that continues because I’ve got some nesting to do.
Did I mention, I’ve been a little snacky lately? Espcially for fruit and berries.

And every day gets us one step closer to meeting Baby O!
