My One Word for 2018: Connect

Connect with your people

Last year I picked one guiding word for the year. It was my first time doing this and 12 months later, I can say it was one of the best things I did for myself and my business in 2017.
This year I’m doing it again.

I started thinking about my one word back in August. Yep, it’s a little early, but this one word kept coming, jumping out at me whenever I heard it. I found myself thinking about this word more and more. When I actually sat down to make the final decision, I considered a few other words, but this one just rang true. It was honestly a word sent from above. Like I said, this word has kept coming to me and I really feel its what I need to focus on this year.

So, my One Word for 2018 is… CONNECT.

I need to connect with myself.

I know who I am, this isn’t an identity issue. It’s more of a practical challenge. I’ve got to really connect with my body and learn to take care of it. I used to be really fit and healthy. In high school, I was a dancer and often spent 10-20 hours a week dancing. I was strong and flexible and healthy. And I need to connect with that again. I know I can’t spend 10+ hours at the gym (nor do I want to) but I’ve got to seriously find some practical ways to connect with my body.

I need to Connect with my family.

I’m a stay-at-home mom so I see my kids every day. But I question if I’m really connecting with them? I mean like in a really intentional way. This year, I want to focus on finding a really intentional way to connect with my kids. More than just playing with them, while I check my emails and make dinner. Really quality 1 on 1 time.

And being honest I need some 1 on 1 time in my marriage. Having kids is exhausting and busy and leaves little time for my husband and me to really hang out and connect. That’s going to change. This year, we are going to find a way to connect more. More than our once every 3 months date night (yikes!) and the occasional movie here and there. It’s going to be an interesting journey, but I think it’s so important to focus on connecting as a couple.

I need to Connect with the people around in my circle.

This is honestly where my word came from. Every week I take my kids to playgroup. We’ve been going since Alexie was 2 months old. This past fall, I felt that my role was changing. I wasn’t just going to be a mom, one who sat there and chatted with my friends while the kids played. I felt part of my job was to connect with the other moms, the new people in our group in a way I hadn’t before. It’s kinds of a weird calling, but that’s exactly what it is. I feel called to connect with other moms, build a tribe so to speak. I’m not sure how or what this is going to look like, but it’s the start of something. I’m gonna spend the next year figuring out what.

My One Word for 2018: ConnectI need to Connect with my blog.

This year is going to be a big year for me professionally, I just know it. But to do that, I’ve got to do a lot of connecting. Connecting to you my loyal readers. Part of my mandate with this blog is to make the lives of moms easier and more fun. It’s a big mandate, but I that’s what I’m gonna do. You are going to see more tips and tricks on the Facebook page, inspiration on Instagram and there’s even going to be a new YouTube channel that’s coming. You’ll be able to read, scroll and watch and it’s all to better connect to you, my readers.

I’m also going to be doing more connecting with brands and stores this year. I want to help you guys by introducing you to new ideas and products that will make your lives easier, better and more fun. What better way than to connect you to the brands and companies that do that. I’m looking forward to working with small shops and bigger companies, to make content for you that help you!

So that’s a lot of goals for 2018. But I think it’s doable. I’ve to a whole year to figure it all out. Sure there will be a few curveballs but there’s also going to be some exciting opportunities, things I didn’t see coming. So stay tuned because this year is going to be the best yet!

I’ve heard of other people doing this, lately, and it’s such a cool concept! So simple but seems effective. I need to start thinking of my word for the year… perfect timing to get the year going! 🙂
